A full list of all of the road closures and roadworks across the North East this week

There are a number of road closures in place across the North East this week.

Some roads are closed while others have lane closures. Temporary traffic measures or diversion routes may also be in place on roads in the region.

If you're planning travel through Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Northumberland, Durham, North Tyneside or South Tyneside this week, take a look at the list below to see whether your journey will be affected.

Newcastle

Kingsway in Fenham closed in both directions due to roadworks between Fenham Hall Drive and Queensway. Until March 29.
One lane closed in Gosforth due to roadworks on A189 at A1056 Killingworth Way. On the roundabout. Near to High Gosforth Park. Until April 7.
Saville Row in Newcastle city centre closed due to roadworks from Northumberland Street to North Street. Until April 9.
Redheugh Bridge Road closed due to roadworks from Shot Factory Lane to A695 Railway Street. Until 12:47pm on June 29.
Temporary traffic lights in Shieldfield due to gas main work on B1600 Stoddart Street between Shieldfield Lane and Union Street. Until December 28.

Gateshead

Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A692 Gateshead Road in both directions between Marley Hill (Marley Hill) and Sunniside (Sunniside). Until 4pm on Monday, March 13.
Rose Street in Teams closed in both directions due to roadworks between Morrison Street and Autumn Drive. Until May 3.
Temporary traffic lights in Ryton due to roadworks on Cushy Cow Lane from Hexham Old Road to Mullen Drive. Until 5pm on July 3.
Temporary traffic lights in Ryton due to roadworks on Hexham Old Road between Grange Drive and B6317. Until 5pm on July 3.
Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50 mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass in both directions from J67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) to A1(M) J65 / A194M Birtley. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until May 31, 2025.

Northumberland

A1171 Westmorland Way at Cramlington closed in both directions closed due to roadworks between Crow Hall Lane and A1172 Station Road. Until March 31.
A686 at Haydon Bridge closed in both directions due to roadworks between the Langley Castle Hotel and A69. Until April 10.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A697 at B6344. Until 5pm on April 14.

North Tyneside

Park Crescent in Shiremoor closed in both directions due to roadworks between Park Avenue and Park Grove. Until March 15.
Tyne Street in North Shields closed in both directions due to roadworks from Union Street to Stephenson Street. Until May 15.
Temporary traffic lights in Wallsend due to electricity work on A193 High Street West at Carville Road. Until March 20.
Temporary traffic lights in Longbenton due to roadworks on A188 Benton Lane at West Farm Avenue. Until June 23.
Bell Street in North Shields closed in both directions due to roadworks between Liddell Street and Union Quay. Until May 13, 2024.
Temporary traffic lights in North Shields due to long-term roadworks on Liddell Street near Clive Street. Until May 13, 2024.

South Tyneside

New Road in Jarrow closed in both directions due to roadworks from Cotswold Lane to South Crescent. Until 5pm on March 19.
West Holborn in South Shields closed in both directions due to roadworks from Laygate Street to Weetman Street. Until 6pm on March 31.

Sunderland

No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Burdon Lane in both directions between Woodham Drive (Ryhope, Sunderland) and Burdon Turn-off (Burdon, Sunderland). Construction of the new Ryhope to Doxford Link road. Until August 11.
No through traffic allowed in Houghton-le-Spring due to roadworks on Redburn Row in both directions between Black Boy Road and B1284. Until September 21.

County Durham

Temporary traffic lights in Murton due to gas main work on B1285 Station Road at Station Estate North. Until 5pm on March 16.
Wallnook Lane in Langley Park closed in both directions due to roadworks between Front Terrace and Firs Terrace. Until December 31, 2024.
