
Why can’t Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s true allies, the Europeans, agree to “do the deal”, and provide urgent military and security support in return for a share of Ukraine’s rare earth minerals? That way, the economic and technological benefits that would eventually accrue would reside in Europe, and the US might find that bullying and coercion don’t pay (Ukraine ‘gambling with world war three’, Trump tells Zelenskyy in fiery meeting, 1 March).
