A Boat Race ritual that would bring me joy

I enjoyed the picture of a jubilant Cambridge women’s crew after their tradition dunking of their cox in your print edition (Water winners, 14 April) and congratulate you on choosing to highlight the winning women’s crew rather than the men’s. However, I’d have enjoyed it even more had the image been of the dunking of the entire board of Thames Water in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the fouling of the planet.

• Eighteen people in two boats on the Thames have, for nearly 100 years, enjoyed unprecedented national broadcast coverage. In two weeks’ time in the Isles of Scilly, 130 boats with 442 international crews comprising over 2,600 people will compete in the World Pilot Gig Championships, and will barely feature on the local news. Welcome to the “classless” UK.

• Never mind Rory McIlroy winning the Masters. The story of the week has to be Bromley of Football League Two. Record: P 42, W 14, D 14, L 14, GF 56, GA 56, Pts 56. League position 14th. Perfection!

• No, no, Malcolm Woods (Letters, 11 April), the photo of a crowded beach to herald spring will not be Bournemouth. In the Guardian it has to be Durdle Door.

• Am I correct in thinking that Liz Truss’s new social media site for uncensored free speech (Report, 15 April) is to be called Lettuce Talk?
