England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley says Cole Palmer 'looked a little tired' during Tuesday’s training session but has no qualms given his Treble achievement with Manchester City.
Palmer has been included in the squad for this summer’s U21 European Championships in Romania and Georgia. He is joined by City colleagues James Trafford, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Tommy Doyle.
The latter three spent the season out on loan in the EFL while Palmer racked up 25 appearances for the Blues first-team. He joined in with City’s Treble celebrations after Saturday’s Champions League triumph and has no joined up with the Young Lions.
“He trained on Tuesday and he trained again today, he trained well,” Carsley said. “He will be doing a lot of sleeping I would imagine over the next few days, but it is brilliant that he had such a good experience.

“He looked a bit tired but that is to be expected. He is OK. I wasn’t sure what to expect, Cole is quite sensible as it is, like everyone, you have seen the pictures on the telly and until he actually walks through the door, I was relieved when I actually saw him.
“I can imagine my generation of that Everton team winning the treble and the condition we would be in wouldn’t be well. But you have got to enjoy the highs and a lot of these players have had really good seasons.”
Carsley added: “You have to remember their age, they are like 20, 21, they need to enjoy themselves and have that downtime because there is a lot of demands on them.
“Cole is very motivated to do well this tournament, we have to be realistic as well with the demand that we put on him because he is not used to playing 90, 90, 90. Getting him through the amount of games we are going to need to to get to the final is going to be the challenge.”
