A birthday party for George Michael is kicking off Queer Vision Film Festival

Queer Vision Film Festival, presented by Bristol Pride, is back and bigger than ever this year. The 2022 event will run from Fri 24 June - Sun 10 July at the Watershed on the Harbour.

Now in it's 10th year, Queer Vision was developed after the British Film Institutes annual LGBT+ touring film festival ended. Bristol Pride seized the opportunity to host their own festival and so Queer Vision was born and has continued to grow ever since.

The Queer vision team said: "We believe in the importance of seeing yourself reflected on screen and aims to increase visibility and accessibility of Queer media, creating a community that is a safe space to explore themes, and discuss the representations we see. We believe in the power of film for social change."

They host a range of events all year round, with the main festival taking place during Pride Month. As always, they will be continuing to bring Bristol a diverse programme of new release LGBT+ films from around the globe, including independently-made features and award-winning short films.

And they'll be bringing the party too. Kicking off with a special, one-night only screening of George Michael Freedom Uncut on Saturday 25 June on what would have been his 59th birthday; following it up with a DJ set and Birthday Party - complete with a beard bar!

The event will be hosted in Watershed's Café & Bar by Jo Kimber and Queer Vision Producer, Rebecca Ballard. Other festival highlights include Angela Washko's powerful Workhorse Queen on Tue 5 July and Kevin Hegge’s debut, feature-length documentary, Tramps! on Thursday 30 June, followed by a New Romantic DJ set in the Café & Bar from Jim Carna.

On Sunday 3 July they will be celebrating filmmaker, artist and writer Miranda July with a screening of Kajillionaire. With an equally quirky performance preceding the screening from the talented Roseanna Anderson (co-founder and director of Impermanence), in homage to July’s choreographic style in the film.

Finally, Queer Vision have teamed up with Encounters and BFI Film Academy South West, to present Queer Joy 2022 on Thu 7 July, a programme that has been produced by young LGBT+ talent, which incorporates music, performance and plenty of glitter.

You can find the full film line-up here. This year's Queer Vision Film Festival is supported by BFI, with funds from the National Lottery.
