A 53-year-old man will face court today after being charged with the murder of 19-year-old Audrey Griffin, whose body was found in a creek on the Central Coast last month.
Audrey’s body was found in Erina Creek on March 24, just 36 hours after she was reported missing by family. Police originally declared her death non-suspicious, even after making a call out for information from the public.
Around 12pm on Monday, police arrested and charged Adrian Noel Torrens with Griffin’s murder in Surry Hills, Sydney.

According to the police media release, police allege that Torrens had a physical altercation with Griffin. However, the relationship between the pair is not clear.
Torrens was also charged with 11 other unrelated domestic violence matters. He was refused bail and is set to appear before Downing Centre Local Court today.
Audrey, who was an accomplished teen athlete, has been remembered by heartbroken friends as “a true sports champion”, “free-spirited” and a “loyal friend”.
“Our friendship would have lasted a lifetime, and for that I’m forever grateful. Audrey has left an everlasting impression on everyone who met her — a loyal friend to many, who will be deeply missed,” Sammy, a close friend to Griffin, said, per The Daily Telegraph.
“Audrey, thank you for being my best friend. I hope we’re best friends in the next life too, and in every universe before and after this one.”
Audrey’s family has remembered her as a “radiant soul” who was “full of light, kindness, and laughter”.
According to femicide researcher Sherele Moody and Australian Femicide Watch, Audrey is the 22nd woman to be killed in Australia this year.
