A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a 15-year-old boy’s body in bushland in Sydney’s south-west.
As per ABC News, Jacob Greig has been charged with murder after the body of a teenager was found in bushland on Friday night.
According to the publication, the teenager — who has yet to be formally identified — was discovered by a passer-by on Saturday.
Authorities were called to bushland off Wilton Park Road, Wilton about 7.25am on Saturday morning. After filing an appeal for information, Greig reportedly presented himself to Narellan Police Station after 4pm. Greig was then charged with murder on Sunday morning.
Although the teenager has yet to be formally identified, 9News reported that the boy’s family has been notified about the incident. It’s believed that the teenager was from the Picton area.
“We believe something has happened on the Friday evening, but the exact time in relation to what has actually happened is still under investigation,” NSW Police Acting Superintendent Tim Calman said, per the publication.
“There may have been a group that was camping in the area, and we believe that persons associated with that camping event may be involved.”
Calman also extended his condolences to those who were impacted by the teenager’s death. It was also reported that there were no missing persons reports filed for the teen and that he was not known to the police.
“It’s a tragic event for this young person to be involved in,” he said.
“We put our thoughts and feelings out to the family, who are involved as they go through this tough time, The family and the wider circle of friends will be doing it tough this afternoon as they go through this process.”
Greig appeared in Parramatta Court via audio-visual link on Sunday and was denied bail.
Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area since 6pm Saturday who may have dash-cam footage or information on the incident to contact Camden police or Crime Stoppers.
