The most intriguing quarterback of the 2023 NFL Draft might not, in fact, be Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, or even breakout combine star Anthony Richardson.
It’s Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, who tore his ACL and who has seen his draft stock suddenly soaring. Could he end up being a first-round pick, even if he’s taken late?
Although he wasn’t in the latest mock draft from our Christian D’Andrea, he was picked by a few experts and appeared in our latest “consensus” mock. And in an ESPN QBs only mock draft from Jordan Reid and Matt Miller, they have the Texans trading up to the late first round and taking Hooker with the 27th pick. Here’s what Reid wrote:
The big question is why Houston would not just draft a quarterback at No. 2 overall, rather than trade away draft capital to select QB5 in the class here? Well, the move could make sense if the Texans have Will Anderson Jr. graded ahead of the top available quarterbacks at No. 2 and don’t have a big difference in grade on Hooker compared to those other passers. They could land the top non-QB in the class in Anderson, a playmaker on either side of the ball at No. 12 (maybe a receiver) and then get a potential franchise QB here. And with 12 draft picks, the Texans can afford to be aggressive.
Well that would be super intriguing!
