8th February 2022 was the morning in good American life, which rose with the listing of movies and further 24 categories have been announced for the 94th Academy Awards. Social media platform Twitter gave a shout out on the biggest Snubs and surprises over celebrities and their debuts. A number of memes got in circulation with all the nominations and celebrities related to those categories. Regardless of the voting bank of Oscar nominees being in consideration, the list began to create buzz online.
On one side eyebrows were being raised on the number one point of disappointment Lady Gaga’s absence of nomination for her role as Patricia Gucci in the House Of Gucci. After spending months getting her groundwork shaped in that character, making the most outspoken press tour with a line of most prestigious looks, Gaga did what she usually does the best, giving a life to the dramatic vision of her work. Many trolled her with funny and humorous memes and at the same time media showed their concern for Gaga. Stating she might be devastated by her lack of nominations, Lady-G fans reeled their feelings around while many jokes on her reactions also started doing rounds. For all we know her best revenge will be another smashing entry on the red carpet, trailblazing with her head high and chin up after not being nominated this year yet announcing the winner on the main stage. Who knows what she is preparing for her avant-garde booster dose of Gaga-fashion. After Ridley Scott’s film seeing almost shut out of nominations, the movie did pick up the category of best Make-Up and Hairstyling, likely due to Leto’s complete physical transformation and some of Lady-G looks which they considered fair enough.
Beyoncé getting nominated first time ever for her song “Be Mine” for King Richard. We can’t really call this a whole shot of surprise since this Oscar award has been scheduled around the black history month. But it does make sense to tickle the bone of surprise without Beyoncé doing even one interview, round-table talks, film magazine article or a music video about it. This woman of substance didn’t really just wink an eye at the Oscar and had it dropped in her basket, tons of cheers and best wishes poured her way. The inclusion of Kristen Steward in the best Actress Category is something that seemed uncertain after the SAG awards failed to recognise her potential work in Spencer. This basically made a quite “phewww” for Academy’s decision on this nominee. This Twilight Saga - starring Academy award nominee was taking hits left and right on twitter for her performance facing first turmoil. At the end of the day she has been nominated and that’s what counts.
Another nomination of Driving My Car got good appreciation at the Cannes by critics, we are waiting to witness it get translated to Oscar glory, while Judy Dench being nominated for the 8th time feels a little wild much on this achievement to treasure. Jessi Buckley has surprised us all, with quietly putting together her career over past few years, this time coming to beg an Oscar for her role in Chernobyl. Even J.K. Simmons surprises scoring his second nomination this year playing William Frawley in Being the Ricardos. While movie Dune did pick up recognition in multiple technical categories, Denise Villeneuve - his directorial debut got thrown to the sand-worms instead. Frances McDormand has won two of the best actress trophies in the past but Lady Macbeth couldn’t snag her a third nomination this year. while Bradley Cooper was technically snubbed for his leading role in Nightmare Alley and support ing category role in Licorice Pizza. Ariana Grande didn’t make it for her soundtrack in “Just Look Up” in the best song category. May be better luck next time with Wicked.
