As people across Edinburgh prepare for Christmas, we're likely ordering the gifts we need on our phones while planning a nice trip to the markets.
Back in the '90s, Princes Street had scenes similar to a zombie apocalypse this time of year and the Christmas markets had barely even begun. Times have changed, and we're strangely missing that December shopping stress that internet shopping has taken away.
We've raked through the archives to find some snaps that sum up Christmas back in the '90s, including nighttime queues at the Disney store and having to take a seat on Princes Street from pure exhaustion.

As for the Christmas markets, which have now become one of the most popular across Europe, those didn't come around until the late '90s - and even then they were nothing compared to the expansive stalls we see today. It's fair to say that the festive period in Scotland's capital has evolved in the past twenty-plus years, but looking at these snaps from days gone by really proves it.
