9,288 new Covid cases, 82 more deaths

There were 9,288 new confirmed Covid-19 cases and 82 coronavirus-related deaths during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Wednesday.

This compared with 9,721 new cases and 77 coronavirus-related fatalities reported on Tuesday morning.

There were 9,268 local cases and 20 imported cases.

On Tuesday, 19,119 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Tuesday’s figures did not include 10,141 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. This would raise the total to 19,429.

As of Tuesday, a total of 108,654 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment, including 32,021 in hospitals. The remainder were in hospitel facilities/field hositals (11,584) or in home/community isolation (64634), according to the daily update posted by the Department of Disease Control.

Of those in hospital, 1,638 were seriously ill with lung inflammation and 776 dependent on ventilators. Of the seriously ill patients, Bangkok had the most at 130 cases, followed by 88 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 66 in Kanchanaburi, 61 in Ubon Ratchathani and 57 in Samut Prakan, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the CCSA, the 82 people who died were aged from one year to 100 with an average age of 74. One was from Myanmar and another from Laos.

Bangkok logged six new deaths and there were eight in adjacent provinces -- three in Nakhon Pathom, two each in Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi, and one in Pathum Thani. Other central plains provinces further from the capital had 23 deaths -- four in Chon Buri, three each in Chachoengsao and Kanchanaburi two each in Lop Buri, Prachin Buri and Saraburi, and one each in Nakhon Sawan, Ang Thong, Singburi Samut Songkhram, Ayutthaya, Trat and Sa Kaeo.

The North reported 16 deaths -- two each in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Uttaradit, Lamphun, Lampang and Tak, and one each in Sukhothai, Phayao, Kamphaeng Phet and Mae Hong Son.

The Northeast saw 27 more coronavirus-related fatalities -- seven in Maha Sarakham, three each in Roi Et, Si Sa Ket, Khon Kaen and Nakhon Phanom, two each in Kalasin and Sakon Nakhon, and one each in Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lamphu, Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Ratchasima.

The South had two deaths, in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla. Bangkok continued to report the most daily cases at 3,061, followed by 317 in Buri Ram, 300 in Si Sa Ket, 270 in Samut Prakan and 233 in Khon Kaen. The 20 imported cases came from eight countries. They included six from Laos and five from Myanmar.

Vaccinations continued, with 134.03 million doses administered as of Tuesday. The government said 81.0% of the population had now received at least one dose of the vaccine, 73.9% at least two shots and 37.8% at least one booster shot. Global Covid-19 cases rose by 594,272 over the 24 hours to 514.65 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,827 to 6.26 million.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,290,824 Covid-19 cases, including 2,067,389 cases this year, with 4,153,310 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 28,860 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 7,162 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 28,379 on April 1, 2022.
