875 new homes to be built in Leeds as part of major new development

A new housing development with 875 new homes will be built in the east of the city.

Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes have been given the go-ahead to start the project. The developers have received outline planning permission for the development of two, three and four-bedroom homes in the East Leeds Extension (ELE) from Leeds City Council.

Of the new homes, 15 per cent will be allocated as affordable housing. An on-site greenspace with play facilities has also been confirmed as part of the contributions along with a residential travel plan to encourage the use of sustainable travel modes by residents and also contributions towards local educational facilities.

Cycle route improvements towards Barwick Road and enhancements towards local bus services have been agreed upon too. Footpath and cycleway additions within the development have also been implemented and will be ideal for commuters in the area.

Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon will now prepare reserved matters planning applications to confirm the detailed design of the development. Jenny Purple, Land Director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: "We are delighted to have received outline approval for our first phase in the East Leeds Extension.
