837 new Covid inpatients, 12 more deaths

There were 12 more Covid-19 fatalities and 837 new patients admitted to hospitals on Thursday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Friday.

This compared with 13 coronavirus-related fatalities and 1,125 patients on Wednesday, as reported on Thursday.

As of midnight Thursday, a total of 10,147 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 10,409 the previous day), including 6,145 in hospitals (down from 6,172). Of the remainder, 68 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 76) and 3,931 in home/community isolation (down from 4,158).

Of those in hospitals, 664 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 674) and 332 dependent on ventilators (unchanged).

As of Friday, the daily averages over a 14-day period were - 1,227 new patients, down from 1,764 as of Sept 3 figures; 664 seriously ill patients, down from 729; 332 dependent on ventilators, down from 357; and 18 coronavirus-related deaths, down from 27.

The 24-hour period also saw 1,087 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Of the 837 new patients over the past 24 hours, there were 836 cases in the general population and one was a prison inmate.

The 12 people who died were aged from 36 to 80 years.

Bangkok recorded two more deaths and there were two more in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (1) and Nakhon Pathom (1).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital reported two -  in Sing Buri and Ayutthaya.

The North reported one new coronavirus-related death, in Phrae.

The Northeast had two, both in Nong Khai, and the South reported three new fatalities – two in Nakhon Si Thammarat and one in Pattani.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,672,146 Covid-19 cases, including 2,448,711 this year, with 4,629,396 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,603 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,905 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 481,151 in 24 hours to 615.98 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,325 to 6.52 million.

The United States had the most cases at 97.43 million, up 40,692, and the most deaths at 1.08 million, up 249.
