An Excise team seized 82 kg ganja from a tourist bus coming from Odisha at Walayar check post near here on Sunday. Five people were arrested in connection with the seizure.
The arrested were bus driver Bineesh, 39, from Aluva; Pratheesh, 40, from Kodungallur; and Odisha natives Rajesh Digal, 30; Moumila Digal, 31; and Sujit Kumar, 31.
The bus was carrying migrant labourers from Odisha to Perumbavur. The seizure was made on the basis of a tip-off got by Excise Inspector (Parali) K. R. Ajit.
The ganja was being transported to Perumbavur for distribution among wholesale dealers there.
