Scotland captain Andrew Robertson etched his name further into the national team’s history books on Thursday night, making his 81st international appearance in a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Greece in their UEFA Nations League Section A play-off first leg.
The Liverpool star’s latest cap sees him surpass former Manchester United midfielder and ex-Scotland skipper Darren Fletcher, who earned 80 caps during his illustrious international career.
Robertson now moves into third place on Scotland’s all-time appearance list, edging ever closer to the elite company of Jim Leighton (91 caps) and all-time leader Kenny Dalglish (102 caps).
Robertson, 31, led by example in Athens, with Scotland producing a resolute defensive display to claim a slender advantage going into the play-off second leg at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of Scotland’s most recent fixture, Robertson told the BBC: “I actually said to Kenny the other week, 'I'm coming for you'. His reply was plenty of players have said that before and he's still the main man.
"I love playing for Scotland, showing up for every camp, and I want to get as many caps as I can. Wherever that takes me, it takes me. I'm incredibly proud to get to 80.

"You just deal with what's in front of you. There's so much going on, you can't look too far ahead.
"You need a bit of luck with injuries but I do everything I can to make sure I'm in the best possible shape for Liverpool and Scotland."
Robertson’s journey from the Scottish lower leagues with Queen’s Park to captaining his country on the international stage has been nothing short of remarkable.
The Liverpool defender has become a symbol of consistency and leadership since taking the armband in September 2018, guiding Scotland to back-to-back European Championship qualifications and fostering a new era of belief under Steve Clarke.
