80-Year-Old Man Finds Gun With Cocaine In Trash Can

Edward Banner, a former GM employee, discovered a firearm in a trash can.

During a recent court hearing, an 80-year-old man named Edward Banner, a former General Motors employee, shared a surprising discovery he made back in 2018. Banner testified that he stumbled upon a firearm in a trash can outside a grocery store in Delaware. This revelation came to light as Prosecutor Derek Hines questioned Banner, who is a Navy veteran and has some hearing difficulties.

According to Banner, he had a long-standing hobby of collecting recyclables, a practice he had maintained even before his retirement. He mentioned that he used to earn a decent amount by selling recyclables, but the prices had significantly dropped over the years, with him now only getting around 75 cents per pound for his collection.

During the questioning, Hines adopted a loud and slow tone to communicate with Banner effectively, who was nodding along with the prosecutor's inquiries. Banner explained that after finding the gun in the trash bin, he decided to store it in his General Motors lunch box. Additionally, he pointed out a brown pouch that he had discovered alongside the firearm.

Subsequent investigations by FBI agents revealed the presence of a white powder on the pouch, which later tested positive for cocaine. When asked by Hines if anyone in his household used cocaine, Banner promptly responded with a firm 'No.'

The details shared by Banner during the hearing shed light on a peculiar incident involving the discovery of a firearm in an unexpected location, leading to further investigations into the origins and circumstances surrounding the gun and the associated pouch.
