8 Times Australian Designers Received The Royal Tick Of Approval

When members of the royal family step out, we tend to notice what they’re wearing. Whether we’re taking style pointers from fashionable royals or relishing in fun fashion and beauty facts that make the family feel relatable (the late Queen Elizabeth’s penchant for Essie, Ballet Slippers is a royal fact that earned her a soft spot in our hearts), we love knowing how what they’re wearing.

And when fashion plates like Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, and Tasmanian-born Crown Princess Mary of Denmark venture out in Australian designers, it’s one of the most immediate ways Australian fashion is amplified globally.

Often, royals dip their toes into Australian fashion when visiting down under. In 2014, Kate Middleton set hearts fluttering in a broderie anglaise Zimmerman midi dress paired with pearl earrings and wedges. A fan of silky fabrics and uber-feminine cuts, she was also spotted in a lacy Collette Dinnigan slip back in 2014 (we’ll cop to having spent hours hunting for the dress on second-hand retailers).

The Duchess of Cambridge isn’t the only royal supporter of Australian fashion. Ever the diplomat, Kate’s sister-in-law Meghan Markle committed to a wardrobe packed with antipodean designers when she toured Australia in 2018. Markle pulled looks in designers like Camilla and Marc, Scanlan and Theodore, Oroton and Jac +Jack. She even wore Australian designer Ralph & Russo in her engagement portrait with Prince Harry.

Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice has worn ultra-feminine Zimmerman looks on multiple occasions. And, of course, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark reps Australian designers whenever she can, stepping out in brands like Carla Zampatti, Willow, and Moss & Spy over the years.
