If you thought the lives of Mormon wives were all about baking cookies and attending church, think again! The reality show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has unveiled a world filled with scandal, drama, and jaw-dropping revelations.
From swinging scandals to ketamine confessions, these women are definitely opening up our eyes on what it means to be a modern Mormon.
Buckle up as we dive into the bombshells that will leave you saying, “WTF?!”
PSA: This article is full of spoilers. You have been warned.
1. The soft-swinging scandal finally explained
The bombshell that started it all! Taylor Frankie Paul, the queen of #MomTok, went live on TikTok in 2022 to announce her divorce and casually dropped that she and her husband were “soft swinging”.
The news sent shockwaves through the Mormon community and the internet alike, but we never knew details (including the social fallout)… until now.
According to Taylor “Everyone has hooked up with like everyone,” Taylor revealed in the show, but clarified that “hooking up” meant getting cosy with other couples (“including oral”) without going “all the way”.
Taylor went on Nick Viall‘s podcast The Viall Files after the show filmed to chat about the scandal. “For me I feel like religion didn’t play a part in it other than guilt of like ‘you know this is wrong’,” she told him.
When Nick asked her about the loopholes in the Mormon faith, like “soaking,” Taylor said, “We’re taught don’t do it until you’re married”, hence the soft-swinging only between her couple married friends. That’s one reason to get married I guess!
2. Whitney’s NICU TikTok dance drama
Next up is the revival of Whitney Leavitt’s controversial TikTok dance in the NICU from 2021, which I can’t even believe is a real thing. The internet truly is the wildest place on Earth.
While her baby was put on oxygen when receiving treatment for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Whitney decided it was the perfect moment to bust a move and share it with her followers.
The internet was quick to react, with many expressing their shock and outrage. Whitney took the opportunity on the show to tell her side of the story.
“In that video people thought that I was using my child’s sickness for clout and for attention,” Whitney said in a confessional during episode four.
Whitney explained that she’s looking for forgiveness from the internet because she just wanted to do “something fun” after finding out her son was improving from his condition.
However, cast member Demi Engemann said that she’s heard a different story from when her and Whitney were doing ketamine therapy together (we’ll get to that story in a minute).
“She admitted to me that that video that she posted was for sympathy, likes, clout and for recognition and to gain her following,” said Demi.
Since the show ended Whitney has expressed how disappointed she was in Demi for exposing the conversations they had during their ketamine therapy situation.
“After many months and days of therapy, no, I did not make that video for clout at all,” Whitney told Decider.
“You could be processing something else under that drug and then you’re just spitting out all of these things. So [for Demi] to have filmed that and to have kept that and to have stated that to everyone else in such a personal, intimate moment was very hurtful.”
3. No to coffee, but yes to ketamine
In a surprising twist, the cast members have been open about their regular ketamine therapy sessions. Yes, you read that right!
While they adhere to strict Mormon guidelines that prohibit things like alcohol and coffee consumption, they’re turning to this unconventional therapy for mental health support.
While some may raise an eyebrow at this juxtaposition, Demi insists, “The way that I use ketamine is assisted by a doctor—very, very low trace amounts of ketamine and it’s completely safe,” per Parade.
4. The truth behind Taylor’s arrest
The show addressed the Taylor’s viral arrest video head on. Taylor was arrested after an alleged drunken domestic dispute in February 2023. A complaint filed in Salt Lake County alleged that Taylor threw a phone, a wooden play set and “heavy metal chairs” at her boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, during a drunken domestic dispute.
She was charged with aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse with injury and criminal mischief, according to Herriman police in Salt Lake County. She was subsequently sentenced to three years of probation. However, Taylor admitted on the show that she is looking to turn over a new leaf.
“After the arrest, I was under so much stress. I was filmed leaving the jail and then that was immediately on the Internet,” she said. “It was a blessing in disguise. It helped me wake up.”
5. The $20,000 vibrator deal
Whitney also had a moment of entrepreneurial genius when she was offered $20,000 to promote a vibrator. But when she tried to explain her potential brand deal as a form of “empowerment”, her mum was not having it.
“I think it’s a personal thing between you and your partner,” Whitney’s mum said in the show.
She continued, “I think when you’re seeking pleasure it can just get out of hand.”
6. Taylor Frankie Paul is miserable in her relationship
Taylor Frankie Paul has been vocal about her struggles in her relationship with her baby daddy. Despite appearing to have a picture-perfect life on social media, she admitted to feeling miserable in the relationship.
In an emotional scene Taylor reveals to her mum that she doesn’t think she “deserves this happy ending life” and tells her other cast members multiple times that she is “miserable” in her relationship and could imagine leaving.
This comes as a surprise since the couple have continued posting TikToks together, sticking by each other for their child.
7. Never hide a pregnancy test in a cake
Whitney continued to make some bonkers decisions and announces her pregnancy to her mum by putting her used pregnancy test in a cake. Everybody is SO creative.
Whitney’s sister is thankfully the voice of reason pointing out the pee “residue and germs” they’ll be eating from the cake.
Naturally the internet is up in arms by this failed DIY moment, with one TikTok user commenting, “The cake looked good too. I’d have been so mad. Flip the table like a Real Housewife mad”. Same girl, same.
8. Whitney is officially out of MomTok
As the season progressed, it became increasingly clear that Whitney was struggling to connect with the other women in the group despite being an OG member of MomTok.
“I think MomTok is better off without Whitney. She gets a lot of views and attention, but I don’t think we need her,” Mikayla Matthews, one of the other cast members, bluntly stated.
“It’s kind of like ‘Out of sight, out of mind.’ She wants everyone to kind of chase her and be like ‘No Whitney we love you, come back.’ I’m just exhausted at this point.”
It seems like Whitney DGAF saying “Good luck without me”, as her parting words. So basically the group is dead-dead to her.
Taylor still comments on Whitney’s TikToks supportively, so it seems like she’s friends with some of the MomTokkers, but she’s definitely left the group chat.
“There’s so many answers to that question because I don’t really know,” Whitney shared in an Instagram Live, per Distractify.
“I don’t really know, and I don’t really feel welcomed in, like, the whole group as a whole. But again, like, some I’ve reconnected with, and just some I haven’t.”
If you for some reason read through all these spoilers without finishing the show, get it together and watch all eight episodes on Disney+ right now!
