8,640 new Covid cases, 13 more deaths

There were 13 more Covid-19 fatalities and 8,640 new cases recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday morning.

This compared with the 19 coronavirus-related fatalities and 8,129 new cases reported on Thursday morning.

The 13 latest fatalities were between the ages of 24 and 100 years. They included four in Bangkok, one in adjacent Nonthaburi and five in other central plain provinces farther from the capital.

There were 8,425 new cases in the general public, 20 among prison inmates and 195 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 8,369 were confirmed at hospitals and 56 via mass testing.

Bangkok still had the most new cases at 1,630, followed by 700 in Samut Prakan, 482 in Chon Buri, 469 in Nonthaburi, 377 in Phuket, 294 in Pathum Thani, 273 in Khon Kaen, 189 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 155 in Ubon Ratchathani and 151 in Nakhon Pathom.

The 195 imported cases included 33 from Russia, 20 from India, 14 from France, 11 from Germany, 10 from Qatar and nine each from the United Kingdom and the United States.

On Thursday 82,720 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 82,734), including 540 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 533) and 118 dependent on ventilators (unchanged).

The 24-hour period also saw 8,641 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,361,702 Covid-19 cases, including 138,267 cases this year, with 2,256,982 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 22,000 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 302 so far this year.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-related fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18, 2021.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 3.59 million in 24 hours to 343.05 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 9,084 to 5.59 million.

The US had the most cases at 70.54 million, up 727,414, and the most deaths at 883,903, up 2,485.
