Glasgow's flagship Tradeston Bridge over the River Clyde has been labelled 'a manky mess' after being plagued by graffiti.
The pedestrian bridge, colloquially known as the 'Squiggly Bridge', connects the Tradeston and Kingston areas south of the river with the financial district, and is reported to have cost £7m when completed back in 2009.
Yet one furious local who spotted the graffiti over the weekend said the bridge was "an embarrassment to the city" and "one of Glasgow's ugliest eyesores".
They took to Twitter to write: "I understand Glasgow's Tradeston Bridge crossing over the River Clyde cost us taxpayers a whopping £7 million - yet it's a manky mess and an embarrassment to the city.
"So why doesn't the City Council and local politicians come up with a plan for protecting this public investment against mindless vandalism? The bridge got a wee 'spruce up' for COP26, but now it's back to being one of Glasgow's ugliest eyesores."
A Glasgow City Council spokeswoman said yesterday in response: "Senseless vandals who daub graffiti on city landmarks like the Tradeston Bridge are tarnishing the appearance of our city and the vile sectarian graffiti on one part of the bridge is utterly disgusting.
“There is no place for this appalling antisocial behaviour in Glasgow and our graffiti team will move in to begin removing the shameful vandalism tomorrow.
“We’d urge anyone who witnesses vandalism being carried out to report it to the police immediately.”
