A 50-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of an elderly woman on the Gold Coast overnight.
Emergency services were called to a Molendinar address after reports of a woman being "seriously injured".
Police attended the property and found the home owner, 74-year-old Susan Walker, deceased.
Jason Thomas King, who lived in Ms Walker's house, was taken in for questioning and has since been charged with her murder.
The matter was mentioned before the Southport Magistrates Court today and adjourned until Tuesday, when Mr King will be required to appear via videolink.
Gold Coast Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said authorities were called to the Macquarie Avenue house at about 8:40pm.
"A male attended a residence and raised the alarm about a woman that was significantly injured," he said.
"As a result, emergency services responded and unfortunately found a deceased 74-year-old woman inside that address.
"However, the parties are known to each other."
According to police, the 50-year-old man who raised the alarm to neighbours also lived at the property with the woman.
The pair were not related or in a relationship.
Acting Chief Superintendent Wildman said police had not been called to the residence in the past.
"This is one of those tragic incidents where we get a call for service and attend and officers are confronted with quite a significant crime scene," he said.
Police said they were not searching for a weapon and the 50-year-old man was not injured in any way.
Neighbours shocked
The ABC spoke to a neighbour who said he had been hearing loud music coming from the property in previous days.
He was shocked to discover a woman's body had been found inside.
"We came outside last night when we heard the commotion," the man said.
"There were police everywhere."
Another neighbour, Hunter, said they had heard the sound of arguing coming from the house in recent months.
"I just know they've been arguing a lot and police have been here," they said.
Police have established a crime scene and investigations are continuing.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
