The NFL offseason continues today, a Friday, and we continue the countdown to the start of the regular season. For the Arizona Cardinals, who open the season on the road at Highmark Stadium against the Buffalo Bills on September 8, there are 72 days left.
No. 72 currently belongs to a player who made a solid impact in his first season with the team in 2023. Center Hjalte Froholdt wears No. 72.
He was signed last offseason to a two-year contract and was one of the biggest surprises on the team. After three years as a backup, the Cardinals signed him and made him their starting center almost immediately.
While it was speculated all offseason that they would add an established veteran starting center, they never did and Froholdt played all but a handful of offensive snaps during the season.
He was a solid starting center and enters this season as the established starter.
He was the team’s strongest man in the weight room last year, although that title has been claimed this offseason by Evan Brown.
Froholdt is a candidate to get a contract extension.
He isn’t the best No. 72 the Cardinals have had. That title belongs to Hall of Fame offensive lineman Dan Dierdorf, who played for the Cardinals from 1971-1983.
The countdown will continue tomorrow.
