Another memorable year at Aintree racecourse has come to a close after the 2022 Grand National Festival.
The Grand National hasn’t been held in person for the last few years due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the 2020 event cancelled and 2021 held behind closed doors. Since this was the first year back, expectations were high when it came to outfits and atmosphere.
The festival got off to a wet start on Thursday with heavy rain and hail before people had even started arriving, continuing into the day, before a brighter afternoon arrived. Friday proved much brighter with sunshine throughout despite the low temperatures, while Friday started off sunny before rain and hail arrived.

Weather aside, the 2022 Grand National Festival proved a huge event for fashion in the city, living up to its long-standing reputation. Each year, ladies spend weeks - if not months - planning their jaw-dropping outfits for the big day, and while trends change year on year, they always manage to don incredible outfits.
Among this year’s trends were flamboyant headwear , neon outfits and a new fedora-style hat trend. Some even featured a large feather that set them apart from the crowd.
Donna Mulligan was also crowned the winner of the Grand National Ladies Day 2022 Style Award at Aintree racecourse on Friday. Wearing a floor-length red gown with cape sleeves, a matching headdress and a pair of gold heels, Donna was announced as the winner in the Red Rum Garden.
As the winner, Donna walked away with £5,000 cash, the Ultimate UK Staycation Spa Break with Iconic Luxury Hotels, a £1,000 donation to the winner’s chosen charity, a pair of Garden Club tickets to Ladies Day 2023, Randox Health package worth £500 and a £500 voucher Never Fully Dressed.
