A tragic incident unfolded on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado, where a 7-year-old boy lost his life in a shooting that left 24 bullet holes in a home. According to court documents, the boy was lying next to his father in bed when the gunfire erupted.
The father, Zackieus Lang, recounted that his son was on the right side of the bed while he was on the left when the shots rang out just after midnight. The FBI, responsible for investigating serious crimes on the reservation, has not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
An individual who had been drinking with the suspect, Jeremiah Hight, revealed to authorities that Hight had expressed intentions to 'shoot up Zackieus Lang’s house.' Hight was apprehended on the Navajo Nation reservation in Utah after a search that lasted several days.
Investigators recovered 24 bullet casings from an 'assault-style rifle' at the scene of the shooting, near where surveillance footage captured a person firing the weapon. Zackieus Lang described witnessing his son, Zamias Lang, in immediate distress following the incident.
Following the FBI's announcement of a $10,000 reward for information leading to Hight's arrest, he was taken into custody and appeared in federal court in Flagstaff, Arizona. Hight did not contest his identity as the suspect in Zamias Lang's shooting and will be transferred to Colorado to face charges of second-degree murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in Indian Country.
The community mourns the loss of the young boy and awaits justice as the legal proceedings unfold in this heartbreaking case.
