Cincinnati Bengals training camp on Sunday featured some serious 11-on-11 work, new hairdos and notable updates to positional battles.
Some thoughts:
- Star WR Ja’Marr Chase sat out again, basically confirming a “hold-in” situation. Not a huge deal, though, especially this early in game. Quietly, DE Trey Hendrickson has done the same thing for the past trio of practices.
- DE Sam Hubbard left on a cart, albeit after walking to it under his own power. He’s coming back from an offseason injury, so the short ride might’ve been preventative — and something as minor as cramping.
- QB Joe Burrow looked sharp in the red zone. Also impressive was his range, hitting so many different targets.
- Rookie TE Erick All got activated earlier in the day and looked great in drills. He has the ability to make a depth chart situation very complicated.
- New WR Hakeem Butler might just be the real deal. He looks massive and impressive. That he’s getting a chance while guys like Chase sit could make a brutally tough decision all the more difficult.
- The under-center looks to continue to be encouraging, with guys like TE Mike Gesicki permitting the offense to be more versatile. They seemed to want to install this last year before Burrow’s injury. He’s healthy now, and their personnel is more dynamic, so the new looks are refreshing.
- It’s really hard to put into words just how sharp Burrow is — to all types of targets. Enjoy:
Hey @JoeyB & @trenton_4 this was nice!
