The spring fashion and beauty season is in full swing. As we get busy adding all of spring's new style trends to our thoughtfully curated wishlists, we're just as excited to experiment with our beauty routines, and we're laser-focused on statement nails. If you're heading to the salon for a do-over we've gathered some manicure ideas and nail looks that pack a serious punch. While red nails will always be a fashion classic and cold winter mochas warmed us last season, it's time to say a bold hello to captivating colors, Beyoncé-inspired chrome, and fantasy nail art and embellishments that are so damn fabulous, they'll make your head spin (and turn heads).
The spring runways taught us that unconventional trends like tie-dye makeup are the go-to for the season, and nail art is no different. In tandem with their audacious collection, Moschino adorned its models in glossy, sparkly tips with 3D pink roses. Chet Lo displayed this same boldness with lengthy, raw-cut tips in all three primary colors to accompany his seductive pieces. These were seen at Zimmermann, Philipp Plein, and Luar, among other designers. Mugler meanwhile, continued to show their sartorial supremacy as iconic muses Angela Bassett and Paris Hilton sashayed down the runway showcasing structural mani masterpieces and exaggerated black acrylic tips.
Off the runways notorious style stars across the fashion capitals explored a mix of manicure minimalism and maximalism during the shows. Celebrity mainstays like Blake Lively might have wanted her figure-flattering, gold jumpsuit to be the main attraction at Michael Kors, but it was her muted gold nails that caught our attention. In a similar dazzling ensemble, Saweetie took things up a notch with red ombre, pointy claw nails coordinating with a sequin, ab-baring cutout gown by the designer. Preferring to take a more classic route Kylie Jenner and Teyana Taylor opted for effortless, short nails that were just as chic as all the OTT nail displays going on. Each to their own.
Whether you're into press-ons or a fan of fostering your natural nails, view the biggest trends to incorporate into your manicure rotation this season.
Daring Tips
Acrylic tips have been in for decades, and we have icons like Donyale Luna and Florence Griffith-Joyner to thank for it. The distinct look was seen in all kinds of interpretations on catwalks, especially in New York and London. The models at Moschino and Luar flaunted 3D sensations, reminding us all that nails are indeed a part of the outfit.
Aura Nails
While ombre nails are often depicted as a natural blend of white and nude, they've taken on a whole new meaning in the form of aura nails which has become quite the sensation on TikTok. A seamless display of color blending that results in a hazy almost space-like design, these showstoppers were showing off at Private Policy and Grace Liang.
Minimalist Nails
Spring usually sees us eschewing minimalism and classic black in favor of bold prints and bright colors, but the Mugler show (and Paris Hilton) proved, that black is eternal and you can wrong with the basics. Their one-color manicure was powerful especially when elevated to acrylic tips, or paired with a structural ensemble. And when in doubt, go bare and let your natural nails shine.
Reigning Reds
In the last year, red has seen a significant resurgence on and off the runway, and it's continuing its takeover in beauty. Viktor & Rolf's simple red nails served as a classy touch to their avant-garde couture suiting. Moschino also featured an unusual hue of red and brown with almost every single look.
Chrome
Beyonce's effect on style and culture is so iconic, of course, she's managed to influence our manicures. Since the birth of "Renaissance," all shades of metallics and silvers have taken over, and designers like Diesel were quick to jump on the glittering trend coordinating the model's Alien-superstar-themed looks with full silver manis.
Short Nails
Here's the long and the short of it. Permission is also granted to take a "less is more" approach to accessorizing with your manicure. As we saw at Christian Siriano's show, models proudly wore short, chic, soft pastel pink nails. Which is also a perfect expression of spring beauty.
