7 Op Shops In Sydney You Need To Visit For Your Next Thrifting Adventure

zendaya stands and smiles at Sydney thrift store or op shop

Op shopping is one of life’s greatest joys. Some days the thrifting gods are on your side and you leave with an unimaginable bounty. Often when I look down at my random assortment of goodies, I know without a doubt that I would never have been able to curate a line-up of items this good from a shopping centre.

The thrift is where you find one of a kind pieces and you literally have no clue what you’re going to find. That thrill of potentially unearthing treasure is unmatched. But thrills aside, you can also feel good knowing that you’re shopping sustainably and saving money too. Pushing against fast fashion and giving items a second life.

Op shopping is one of my greatest passions, and here at PEDESTRIAN.TV we do not gate-keep. So I bequeath to you seven of Sydney’s best op shops. This list has been years in the making (you’re welcome). Happy shopping and I hope you find something incredible and fulfils your thrifting dreams.

The Best Op Shops In Sydney

Savers, Surry Hills

Savers Surry Hills. (Image: Savers)

One of the best op shop chains has finally landed in New South Wales. Run, don’t walk to Savers in Surry Hills. It has an abundance of clothing. I’m talking jeans, skirts, shoes, swimmers, active wear and accessories. Pretty much anything you could want – they’ll have it. Plus the prices are very reasonable compared with the prices of other op shops at the moment.

Outside of Surry Hills you can also visit the Savers in Hoxton Park and rumour has it that there is a new Savers opening soon in Camperdown.

Address: Oxford Village, Shop 31 & 33 55/73 Oxford St, Surry Hills NSW. See more here.

Vinnies, Blacktown Mega Centre

Keep your eyes out for the shoes here. (Image: Google Maps)

This Vinnies has a good selection of dresses and shoes in particular. It’s in the mid-range of op shop prices, but you can easily get some boots for $12 and a jacket for $20. They also have a great range of books and other bric-a-brac if you’re on the hunt for homewares.

Address: Cnr Blacktown Rd &, St Martins Cres, Blacktown. See more here.

The Wayside Chapel Op Shop, Potts Point

Never skip on the $5 bucket. (Image: Sydney.com)

The Wayside Chapel has been around for over 50 years supporting people sleeping rough in Sydney. Your money or clothing donations are going directly to providing meals, clothing and a range of other services to the homeless in Sydney.

The store has a range of pricing options, from a $5 bucket with a mix of goodies to designer dresses at the $100 mark. It’s one of those stores where you never know what gold you’ll strike and is always worth a visit.

Address: 31 Hughes St, Potts Point NSW. See more here.

Salvos, Maroubra

A cluster of op shops is the greatest. (Image: Google Maps)

When I’m going op-shopping, I’m ready to go go go. So with this in mind, I’ll often look for a ‘cluster.’ This is when you have a few op shops in close vicinity to each other so you can bounce around and maximise your thrifting time.

Marboura has the holy trinity of Savols, Vinnies and AngliCare all within walking distance from each other. The Salvos has a section full of vintage and zany clothing, plus a good selection of shoes up on a little platform.

The Anglicare is a touch smaller but very reasonably priced and the Vinnies just a touch further down the road has a great collection of homewares and knick-knacks.

Address: Shop 1/193 Maroubra Rd, Maroubra NSW. See more here.

Vinnies, Waverley

If you’re on the hunt for some second hand designer, this is your spot. (Image: Google Maps)

This Vinnies is bit on the pricier side of op shops BUT this store will often have designer brands that you can pick up for an absolute bargain. I’ve seen everything from Zimmerman dresses to Armani shoes. If you’re looking for a splurge, this is the spot to hit up.

Address: 255/259 Bronte Rd, Waverley NSW. See more here.

Lifeline, Pennant Hills

We love an op shop that does it all. (Image: Lifeline)

This Lifelife has range. I’m talking a giant decorative fork (like one meter kind of big), paintings, furniture, flippers, snorkel gear and even craft supplies. It’s also in a mini-cluster with another good Vinnies just up the road too. The Lifeline has a great selection of jewellery scattered throughout the store and whenever you pop in you’re bound to leave this Lifeline with something fun.

Address: 108/110 Yarrara Rd, Pennant Hills NSW. See more here.

Uturn Outlet, Punchbowl

Rack city etc. (Image: Second Hand Search)

If you’re the type of op-shopper who wants to go to one store and thrift, the Uturn outlet is the place for you. There’s racks upon racks of streetwear as well as a good selection of sneakers too. At the back they’ve got ‘pay by kilo’ bins for those ready to rummage and find a gem. You can spend a decent amount of time in there working the racks, so make sure you give yourself enough time for a proper snoop.

Address: 95 Bonds Rd, Punchbowl NSW. See more here.
