The Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday was disappointing, but Andy Reid and company will get their chance to redeem themselves on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2 of the preseason. Several Chiefs made their mark in Week 1, but others were overshadowed by the performances of players like Justyn Ross, Nikko Remigio, and Chamarri Conner.
With just two games remaining to earn their spot on Kansas City’s 53-man roster, several prospects will need to redouble their efforts against Arizona this weekend.
Here are seven Chiefs we want to see more from when Kansas City travels to the desert on Saturday:
DB Joshua Williams
Williams looked like he might develop into a top performer for Kansas City in training camp but didn’t get much run against New Orleans. He has a chance to earn a significant amount of playing time in 2023 but will have to outperform other members of the Chiefs’ burgeoning secondary in the coming weeks to climb Steve Spagnuolo’s depth chart.
WR Skyy Moore
Moore failed to make a catch against the Saints, and with so much young talent showing out in Sunday’s game, it would be refreshing to see the second-year receiver put together a primetime performance against Arizona. Watch for Andy Reid to get him involved early on Saturday.
DB Mike Edwards
Edwards was one of the Chiefs’ most notable free agent additions but wasn’t featured in Kansas City’s defensive gameplan in the Big Easy. His involvement against Arizona would be a breath of fresh air after the Chiefs first-team defense’s less-than-stellar showing on Sunday.
RB Deneric Prince
Prince was one of the most hyped players at Chiefs training camp but underwhelmed against the Saints. He only got four carries on Sunday and will need more looks for Kansas City’s coaching staff to truly assess his potential.
LB Cole Christiansen
Christiansen led Kansas City in tackling and could prove to be a valuable depth piece for the Chiefs’ linebacking corps in 2023. While his standout performance on Sunday was a good sign for his future, Christiansen will need strong showings in Kansas City’s next two games to become a lock for the Chiefs’ 53-man roster.
TE Kendall Blanton
Blanton is a University of Missouri product and a breakout preseason from the former Tiger would be a great storyline for the Chiefs, who have turned to Columbia-made prospects on both sides of the ball in recent years. He only saw one target on Sunday and could use more chances to show what he can do against Arizona.
NT Danny Shelton
Shelton registered a sack on Sunday and could use more opportunities to earn his spot on Kansas City’s regular season roster. Chris Jones’ absence will necessitate that the Chiefs find a space-eater in the middle of their front four, and Shelton is uniquely positioned to fill the role.
