It didn't need that much more emphasis, but Bristol City's problems and requirements were brutally laid bare at Kenilworth Road at Tuesday night.
From a position of superiority in which they were visibly the better team, City conspired to lose 2-1 to Luton Town conceding the sort of goals that proved the genesis for the term "schoolboy defending".
Two crosses that should have been dealt with by the defence handed a way back into the game for the Hatters and all City's positive work on the ball was undone.
The absence of Nathan Baker since November has hurt City's aerial ability and Rob Atkinson's back injury sustained against Cardiff further limited their height at the back in Bedfordshire.
How much that 90 minutes motivated Pearson into signing Timm Klose on a short-term deal is unclear - the manager did admit last week they needed to make additions in defence - but it looks a timely addition and has, at least on paper, addressed a chronic weakness.
The tall Swiss is equipped with plentiful Championship and big match experience, a sense of composure, on and off the ball and his attributes fit the hole in the Robins' collective skillset.
It's probably too much to expect the 33-year-old to single-handedly solve City's issues - as 10 of their 14 goals conceded have been via crosses or set-pieces - but placing him in the back three should have an impact.
There are concerns, his match fitness being one and if he can play sufficient minutes, but given City's financial restrictions and Pearson's unwillingness to pursue a loan move, it looks at the high end of the deals that were possible for the club.
It may not be the most glamorous or exciting of moves but considering the circumstances makes a lot of sense, and as well as being hailed by City fans, Norwich supporters have welcomed him back to the country.
Klose has been given the No25 shirt but City fans may have to wait before they see him in action with the most likely first sighting being Tuesday's Under-23 match against Cardiff City in Failand.
Klose was scheduled to play this week at the Robins High Performance Centre but a delay in the paperwork around getting international clearance meant he had to watch from the stands as City lost 2-1 to Charlton.
