All 62 bodies have been recovered from the site of the deadly plane crash outside São Paulo on Friday afternoon, according to the state government. The bodies of 34 men and 28 women were recovered, with only the pilot and co-pilot identified so far. The passenger plane crashed outside São Paulo, killing everyone on board after dropping 17,000 feet in just one minute. The flight had departed from Cascavel, Parana, and was headed to Guarulhos, São Paulo.
Dramatic footage on social media captured the plane's fall and its destroyed fuselage in flames on the ground. Sao Paulo fire brigade officials are working diligently to retrieve and identify the bodies, which are in challenging conditions for identification.
Families have been asked to provide medical documentation of the victims to aid in identification. Among those killed were a three-year-old girl and her father, as reported by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Catarina. The regional airline Voepass, operating the flight, confirmed that all passengers held Brazilian documents, with four victims having dual nationality.
The three Venezuelans on board were a woman, her mother, and her 4-year-old son, accompanied by their pet dog. The State of São Paulo has declared three days of official mourning in honor of the victims. Preparations are underway for a wake to be held in Cascavel, where the plane originated.
