60,000 viewers switch off Tommy Tiernan as show suffers ratings nosedive

Viewers continue to tune out of Tommy Tiernan’s Saturday night show as he lost more than 60,000 viewers’ last weekend.

Figures released by RTE show the Navan funnyman continues to bleed viewers since his show returned to our screens in January.

On Saturday, Tommy had an average of 336,000 tuning in – a 62,000 drop from the 398,000 who tuned in last Saturday week.

A spokesman for RTE confirmed the figures: “The Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturday (11 Feb) had an average audience of 336,000 viewers (Live Plus VOSDAL) on RTÉ One (inc RTÉ One +1) and a 35% share of the audience. This series of The Tommy Tiernan Show has had 363,600 streams on the RTÉ Player to date."

On Saturday, former Miss Universe contestant Roz Purcell opened up about the impact an eating disorder had on her physical and mental health.

The Tipperary native, who impressed fans after navigating the difficult line of questioning has since taken to Instagram to reveal that she wasn't expecting such a tough conversation.

"I was really, really nervous about doing this show, as I’ve gotten older I feel far more overwhelmed about doing interviews, especially a big one like this, so I’ve avoided most for the past 2 years," she began.

The 32-year-old reflected on the format of the popular Saturday night talk show, admitting that she was aware it is all about a surprise guest and that the conversation can go in any way.

"I definitely wasn’t mentally prepared to speak about eating disorders so I hope I did okay, I know it can be a very triggering subject for so many," she said online.

The popular influencer said that she still gets overwhelmed sometimes trying to explain what it is like, adding that it "almost brings you back."

Tommy’s has suffered a ratings drop this month, compared to his January 28 show when he had 400,000 viewers watching.

“On February 4, an average of 398,000 (Live Plus VOSDAL) on RTÉ One (inc RTÉ One +1) and a 38% share, the spokesman for RTE said.

But an insider said Tiernan’s chat show is still doing “really well for halfway through the series” with 35% of the available audience on Saturday nights tuning in to his show.

RTE figures also revealed the Ireland V France Six Nations game had an average 738,000 people tuning in to watch on RTE2, with a 70% share of the audience and a further 122,000 live streams on the RTÉ Player.
