Seahawks great Bobby Wagner wound up signing with the Dan Quinn and the Commanders, as expected. Several other former Seattle players have managed to cash in free agency, as well – especially Jordyn Brooks and Damien Lewis. However, there are still a few who are gifted but have not yet been signed by another NFL team.
Here are six who are still free agents.
2024 NFL mock draft: Seahawks go all BPA in 3 rounds
1
FS Quandre Diggs
The most painful roster cut before the start of free agency was that of free safety Quandre Diggs, who made the Pro Bowl in three out of four years with Seattle. He struggled in 2023 though – and while that may be have been poor coaching more than anything else Diggs suffered for it. Cutting him saved Seattle $11 million in cap space but also cut them around $10 million in dead money. We’d love to see Diggs back, but there doesn’t appear to be much room on the depth chart after the Seahawks signed Rayshawn Jenkins and K’Von Wallace.
2
SS Jamal Adams
Cutting Jamal Adams only saved the Seahawks about $6 million in cap space this year and they had to eat over $20 million in dead money, too. However, as former head coach Mike Holmgren advised during the season – it had to be done. Talented as he is, Adams had become a liability on and off the field, to say nothing of his onerous contract. Expect Adams to sign somewhere once the safety market settles. For what it’s worth, ESPN says the Falcons are the best fit for him.
3
NT Bryan Mone
Nose tackle Bryan Mone was also cut for cap reasons, saving the team another $5.39 million against the cap. Mone missed the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL, but had proven to be a valuable backup at a key position prior to that. Most likely Mone will have to settle for a one-year, prove-it deal to show he’s fully recovered.
4
RG Phil Haynes
While left guard Damien Lewis managed to cash in on the first day of free agency with a massive four-year, $53 million deal with the Panthers, right guard Phil Haynes has still not been signed. Haynes graded out only seven points lower than Lewis last season (52.0 vs. 59.6) overall, so it’s somewhat strange that he hasn’t found a new home yet.
5
FB/LB Nick Bellore
Special teams ace Nick Bellore was also a salary cap casualty, despite coming off his second career Pro Bowl season. Cutting Bellore saved Seattle $2.85 million in cap room this year. Despite his age we expect Bellore to eventually land somewhere and wouldn’t be opposed to a return with the Seahawks.
6
OT Jason Peters
With Abe Lucas sidelined by a knee injury and Jake Curhan and Stone Forsythe struggling, the Seahawks signed old man Jason Peters in the middle of the season. He showed out in a couple games, providing some much-needed experience and stability at a position that had become a raging dumpster-fire. Peters is now 42 years old and he’s appeared in an incredible 248 games, but it looks like he could play a few more seasons.
