6 Part-Time Jobs To Take Up In 2025 If You’re Looking To Earn Some Extra Cash

On the hunt for a part-time job to bring in the extra dollars but not sure where to start? Well, you’ve come to the right place.

Whether it’s to pick up some extra cash given the cost of living crisis, or to keep a stable income while studying, it can be tough to know what the right part-time job is, and how to make it fit a busy schedule—especially if you’re already studying or working.

Of course, we’re no strangers to the fact that nearly every job requires a masters degree for an entry-level role. That’s why we wanted to find some solid picks that won’t leave you feeling hung out to dry.

Here are the best part-time jobs that’ll earn you some cash without killing your social life.

Tutor

Whether you’re a whizz at maths, or speak a second language, a tutoring side-gig can be a lucrative venture.

Tutoring can also be fairly flexible depending on your own availability. If you’d prefer to work from home, you can tailor your sessions online (if you can manage teaching over Zoom). Hours can also be pretty flexible depending on you and your students availabilities.

Hospitality & Tourism

Hospitality is the bread and butter of part-time work, and it’s not hard to see why. With weekend work and evening hours, it’s one of the most flexible arrangements out there.

There are some neat benefits that come with a classic hospo job as well, like scoring penalty rates if you work a public holiday and staff discounts. The price of coffee is only going up, so now’s the time to make big money moves.

But if you’re looking for something outside of your standard barista role, you could consider a front of house position at a hotel. So if you’re someone who loves a good yap with customers, you’re bound to get your fix (and some extra bucks) working casual or part-time hours in hospo. And who knows, maybe a regular customer could be the key to your next opportunity?

Admin

If you’re looking for a role where you won’t have to be on your feet all day and can safely scoop up all of the office gossip, an admin job might be for you.

There are plenty of different roles here. If you’d like to complete tasks while throwing on a podcast, a position in data entry is a comfy gig. A receptionist role can also be a solid part-time job that can open up some doors into different gigs in the future if you wanna get an early start in your career.

Nursing

While not for the faint-hearted, nursing or social work services are always in high-demand. The role is also one of the few part-time or casual roles out there that will offer you predictable working hours. Plus, you can always pick up extra work if you’d like. Most importantly, you’ll immediately feel like you’re making a difference and having a direct impact on folks.

We don’t have to beat around the bush though. It is tough work. You’re going to be helping people at their most vulnerable who are also often in immense pain. So this kind of work may not be easy money. You may also need weekends or public holidays as well.

Retail & Customer Service jobs

If you’d like to avoid a desk job because you need to interact with fellow human beings, a retail or customer service role might be for you.

Standard retail assistant roles are great if you’re a social butterfly who loves to interact with customers. Hours can be pretty flexible here as well if you’re looking for a comfy gig through uni (plus you can land yourself some pretty nifty discounts).

Alternatively if you’re not too keen on the idea of being on your feet all day, you could consider a job in customer service like a call centre representative or a help desk technician.

Social Media & Content Creation

Are you someone who leans a bit more creative? Then you should consider looking into some freelance opportunities. Don’t think your work is good enough to sell? Get over that self-doubt and get out there. Start taking on commissions, seek out feedback, upskill on someone else’s dime. Sometimes it’s the push you need to finally get the ball rolling.

But if you’re wanting something a bit more stable and reliable, a social media assistant role can be your nice middle ground. You’ll get to upskill in graphic design, copywriting and managing online communities. To top it off, you’ll also spend most days impressing your colleagues by professionally shitposting, and isn’t that all we want in a job at the end of the day?

Fun ones

Okay, let’s say you’re looking for a part-time gig that lets you do something a bit different, while earning a wage. Well, jobs like that do exist.

Love dogs or want an excuse to get some extra steps in? Hunt down some dog walking job opportunities, or even advertise yourself as one on your IG stories. You can also throw your hat into the ring for pet sitting as well.

Other lucrative side gigs you could consider are Lollypop Person or Forklift Driver. Now, they do require some extra steps before landing a role, but once you’re licensed and ready to go, those opportunities should be comfortably available to you.

Overall, a part-time job can be a great opportunity to help ease some of the tension in this current cost of living crisis or to help keep you busy. Just remember to stay on top of your self-care and not let yourself burn out too hard. Stay firm with your availabilities, and make sure to give yourself a day off now and then.
