6 killed, dozens injured as gas-filled tanker explodes in Pakistan's Multan, check all updates

Islamabad: At least six people were killed and 38 others injured after liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker exploded in Pakistan's Multan, police said on Monday.

The explosion occurred at an Industrial Estate in Multan's Hamid Pur Kanora area. 

Multan Deputy Commissioner on explosion 
The explosion occurred due to a fire in the tanker, which was full of gas, Pakistan's national daily The dawn quoted Multan Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Bukhari as saying. He added that efforts to control the fire were underway.

A minor girl and two women are among the deceased. Around 20 houses surrounding the explosion site were completely reduced to rubble.

Multan's City Police Officer
The gas was leaking from one of the valves of the tanker truck. Some of the people present in the area had already evacuated after they came to know about the the gas leak, Geo News quoted Multan's City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali as saying.   

13 in crticall condition
According to local reports, death toll may rise as 13 people are in a critical condition. 

Nishtar Hospital
The injured were rushed to Nishtar Hospital, where an emergency has been declared. 

Electricity and gas supply has been suspended due to the explosion.

Illegal LPG refilling warehouse
The spot of the explosion was identified as an illegal LPG refilling warehouse and the explosion occurred during refilling operations. 

Inquiry committee formed 
DC Bukhari formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the incident, seeking a detailed report from it within 48 hours, The Dawn reported.
