Chicago’s latest winter storm brought over 7 inches of snow in some parts of the city.

The snow started falling around midnight and, by noon, 7.2 inches of snow was recorded at Midway Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

A total of 3.3 inches of snow was recorded in Evanston and at O’Hare International Airport, the weather service said.

Winter storm warnings had been scheduled to expire at noon but were extended until 2 p.m. Temperatures were expected to drop into the low 20s Friday evening, and additional snowfall could range between 1 and 3 inches.

About 270 snow plows hit the streets of Chicago overnight, according to the Department of Streets and Sanitation.

“Taking it slow, increasing your following distance and using your headlights while traveling should all be applied if you do have to travel out there this morning,” Yack said.

Friday morning’s snowfall was one of the largest of the season in Chicago. On Monday, 2 inches of snow fell at O’Hare.

Snow storms should be out of the area by Friday night, and temperatures were expected to remain in the 20s Saturday.
