6,397 new Covid cases, 18 more deaths

There were 18 more Covid-19 fatalities and 6,397 new cases recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.

This compared with the 13 coronavirus-related fatalities and 6,929 new cases reported on Monday morning.

The 18 latest fatalities were between the ages of 70 and 93 years.

Bangkok logged three new deaths while other central plains provinces had four – in Kanchanaburi (1), Chanthaburi (1), Sa Kaeo (1) and Suphan Buri (1).

The Northeast had no new fatalities. The South reported seven more deaths - in Phatthalung (2), Krabi (1), Chumphon (1), Phangnga (1), Songkhla (1) and Satun (1).

The North saw four fatalities - in Tak (2), Phrae (1) and Phitsanulok (1).

Of the new cases, 6,222 were in the general population, 10 were prison inmates, and 165 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 6,173 were confirmed at hospitals and 49 via mass testing.

Bangkok had the most new cases at 753, followed by 598 in Samut Prakan, 556 in Chon Buri, 348 in Phuket, 281 in Nonthaburi, 274 in Khon Kaen, 171 in Ubon Ratchathani, 155 in Chiang Mai, 153 in Nakhon Ratchasima and 136 in Pathum Thani.

On Thursday 81,952 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 82,210), including 534 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 533) and 114 dependent on ventilators (up from 108).

The 24-hour period also saw 6,637 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,337,811 Covid-19 cases, including 114,376 cases this year, with 2,233,903 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 21,956 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 258 so far this year.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-related fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.98 million on in 24 hours to 331.36 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 4,990 to 5.56 million.

The United States had the most cases at 67.63 million, up 389,553, and the most deaths at 874,321, up 468.
