6,305 new Covid cases, 42 more deaths

There were 42 more Covid-19 fatalities and 6,305 confirmed new cases on Wednesday, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Thursday.

Wednesday’s figures did not include 7,830 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. This would raise the total to 14,135.

This compared with the 45 coronavirus-related fatalities and 5,633 new cases reported the previous day.

As of Wednesday, a total of 59,579 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 60,883 the previous day), including 22,705 in hospitals (down from 23,432). Among the remainder 7,755 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 10,282) and 28,821 in home/community isolation (up from 26,841).

Of those in hospital, 1,104 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 1,160) and 536 dependent on ventilators (down from 568).

Of the seriously ill patients, Bangkok had the most cases at 109, followed by 65 in Ubon Ratchathani, 55 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 53 in Suphan Buri and 52 in Udon Thani.

The 24-hour period also saw 7,567 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

According to the CCSA, the 42 people who died were aged from 24 to 100 years.

Bangkok logged four new deaths and there was one more fatality in the adjacent province of Samut Prakan.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had 13 deaths - three in Nakhon Nayok, two each in Uthai Thani, Chon Buri and Ang Thong and one each in Nakhon Sawan, Chachoengsao, Rayong and Saraburi.

The North reported five deaths - three in in Sukhothai and one each in Kamphaeng Phet and Nan.

The Northeast saw 16 new fatalities - three each in Khon Kaen, Yasothon, Roi Et and Ubon Ratchathani and one each in Buri Ram, Loei, Sakon Nakhon and Surin.

The South had three deaths - in Nakhon Si Thammarat (2) and Yala (1).

Among 6,305 new cases over the past 24 hours, there were 6,271 cases in the general population, 32 among prison inmates and two imported cases, from Kazakhstan and Uruguay.

Of the new infections in the general population, 6,254 were confirmed at hospitals and 17 via mass testing.

Bangkok continued to report the most daily cases at 2,566 followed by 183 in Buri Ram, 161 in Surin, 158 in Ubon Ratchathani, 155 in Khon Kaen, 148 in Chon Buri, 146 in Maha Sarakham, 127 in Chaiyaphum and 110 each in Roi Et and Kalasin.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,394,915 Covid-19 cases, including 2,171,480 this year, with 4,305,699 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 29,637 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 7,939 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 771,145 in 24 hours to 525.03 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,592 to 6.29 million.

The United States had the most cases at 84.69 million, up 103,958, and the most deaths at 1.02 million, up 273.
