Australian border police have found $55 million worth of meth and heroin disguised in boxes of green tea and magnets from Thailand.

The consignment of 27 boxes was uncovered by officers in Melbourne after being sent via air cargo from Thailand on February 19, with X-rays indicating abnormalities in the shipment.

Further tests revealed the boxes contained 56 kilograms of methamphetamine and 13 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated street value of about $55 million.

Australian Federal Police have launched an investigation into the shipment.
