London's Metropolitan Police reported that a total of 53 arrests were made during the UEFA Champions League final held at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. The arrests were primarily related to security breaches and pitch invasion incidents that occurred during the match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Five individuals were arrested for invading the pitch, with the majority of the remaining arrests being made for attempts to breach security measures in place at the stadium. The pitch invasion took place within the first minute of the game, prompting swift action from authorities and stadium personnel.

Footage of the incident captured Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marcel Sabitzer assisting in preventing one of the pitch invaders from running across the field. Despite the disruptions caused by the unauthorized individuals, the match proceeded, with Real Madrid ultimately emerging victorious with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium strongly condemned the actions of the pitch invaders, emphasizing that it is illegal to enter the field of play at the venue. The spokesperson affirmed that all individuals involved in the incidents had been apprehended and that appropriate actions would be taken in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Metropolitan Police Commander Louise Puddefoot commended the efforts of officers, stewards, and stadium staff in preventing further security breaches. While acknowledging the challenges faced during the event, Commander Puddefoot highlighted the successful measures taken to maintain security and uphold safety protocols at Wembley Stadium.

Despite the disruptions caused by the incidents, the overall security operation at the UEFA Champions League final was deemed effective in safeguarding the integrity of the event. UEFA has yet to provide additional information or comments regarding the situation.
