We all refine our skills over the course of a lifetime. One I’ve mastered already? Buying concert tickets.
Yep, I managed to secure the coveted Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets when she visited Australia last summer and am often the designated ticket buyer for my friends and family. Who else could get Oasis tickets without having a breakdown in the Ticketmaster queue? This gal.
Should I be spending a (big) portion of my salary on concert tickets? Probably not. But, in my defence, as a music lover concerts, gigs, shows and theatre are always the highlights of my year.
When I look back over the past 12 months, it’s not the work promotion or items of clothing that have brought me the most joy. It’s feeling the rush of a ‘Your payment was successful’ alert and knowing that you have something to look forward to. It’s getting out from behind your computer screen, dressing up and dancing in the crowd with your friends to your favourite songs.
With that in mind, here are my top tips for accessing Pre-Sale tickets, because, clearly, something’s working for me.
1. Sign up for alerts and offers
How will you be able to get tickets to a gig if you don’t know about it??
Follow your fave artists on social media, and keep an eye out on PEDESTRIAN.TV’s site for music news, sign up for Ticketmaster and Ticketek email alerts so any announcements will land swiftly in your inbox.
Companies like American Express will have exclusive Pre-Sales for the most in-demand shows and concerts. No joke – it was only through using my pal’s Amex® Card that we were able to get into the Taylor Swift exclusive Pre-Sale and nab those precious, precious tickets. There are also a bunch of benefits such as retail and dining offers, lounges, and pop-ups that you can jump on and access at the show itself with Amex.
Keep in mind that owning a Credit Card is a big responsibility so the pros and cons should be considered.
2. Be organised
Maybe it’s the fact I’m the eldest sister, or perhaps it’s that the older I get the more Type A I’m becoming, but in order to be successful in nabbing Pre-Sale tickets (well, any tickets), you have to be organised.
Once you have the Pre-Sale release dates in your calendar, it’s time to create a game plan.

Usually, I put alarms in my calendar for Pre-Sale times so I don’t forget while distracted at work. Next, I reach out to various group chats to see who’s keen to join me on the next musical adventure. Once you have a few people ready to drop the cash on tickets, pop them all in another group chat so everyone has the information in one place.
It’s here where you can see who’ll be free on the day to help get in the virtual line. Simple maths tells you that the more people you have attempting to buy tickets for your group, the higher your chances. AKA, everyone needs to take one for the team! Of course, be sure to check the ticket limits, as some shows only allow a certain amount to be purchased in one transaction.
3. Do a practice run before the big day
There’s nothing worse than waiting in an online queue, getting through and then realising you’ve forgotten your account password. This is dangerous, people!! There’s a risk your account will get blocked after you enter an incorrect password one too many times, or your session will time out and you’ll be at the back of the line… again.
Don’t be that person. In the days before the Pre-Sale, log in to your account and take a mental note of your password or have your browser ‘remember’ you. The peace of mind is invaluable when there’s already enough adrenaline pumping to power the concert itself.
4. Have the exact amount of cash you need
Another tip I’ve learnt over the years? Don’t waste time moving money around your bank accounts when you’re trying to buy the tickets. One app glitch or mistake can waste precious minutes and when you have that ticket timer going, every second feels like a chance at happiness slipping from your grasp.
Do the maths before you’re in the line and ensure you have the correct amount in your spending account ready to go. The alternative is potentially using a credit card to make the purchase so the funds are ready to go now and able to be paid off in the future. Plus, you could also earn points on that big purchase.
5. Get manifesting
Alright, I know it’s a bit woo woo, but the only concert tickets I’ve missed out on are Coldplay and Olivia Rodrigo, and TBH, my heart just wasn’t in it. While I love them both, those concerts were a nice-to-have, not an I’ll-sell-an-arm-and-leg-to-experience-this-song-live moment. Or, at least, that’s what I’m telling myself because I’m still hurt they both sold out…
If you’ve done all of the practical tips above, then picture yourself at the gig in a few months time. Listen to the album the artist is touring and get excited about what it would be like to hear it live! Call me crazy, but it works for me.

Regardless of whether you miss out on the Pre-Sale tickets, there’s always the general sale, and maybe even second or third release sales depending on the event. Of course, the odds slim with each release, but when there’s a will, there’s a way.
Good luck, my friends.
