5 things we spotted at Rangers training as Gio van Bronckhorst smiles in face of Alfredo Morelos storm

Rangers face their biggest 90 minutes just a few weeks into the season. It's winner takes all against PSV Eindhoven in Holland and the stakes couldn't higher with a place in the group stage of the Champions League up for grabs.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst lifted club football's ultimate prize as a player with Barcelona and also managed Feyenoord in the competition. Now he is looking to lead Rangers to the lucrative group stage for the first time in 12 years.

But despite the tie balanced on a knife-edge after a 2-2 first leg draw at Ibrox, Van Bronckhorst has shown he isn't scared to make big decisions. The Dutchman has dropped Alfredo Morelos from the squad for the trip over fitness and attitude concerns following his red card against Hibs on Saturday but it didn't look to be affecting him during training. He's 5 things we spotted from the session at Auchenhowie before flying out.

What lies behind the smile?

Van Bronckhorst looks in good spirits as he puts his players through their paces before boarding the short flight to his homeland. But serious thought went into his decision to leave out Alfredo Morelos before sharing a laugh and a joke with his players.

The Dutchman showed he isn't afraid to make tough decisions with his call on Alfredo Morelos which is unlikely to have gone down well with the player.

Lundstram's Red-dy

John Lundstram will be looking to put his red card misery behind him in the Philips Stadium with the club waiting for the outcome over their appeal against his dismissal against Hibs.

It appeared to be a harsh sending off for the former Sheffield United man for his foul on Martin Boyle but that could fire him up for the Champions League trip to Holland.

Hey you with the sad face

Why is Ryan Kent looking so glum? Is it because he knows there will be no Alfredo Morelos to aim for with his crosses from the left in Holland? Or is he just struggling to shake off the disappointment of those two dropped points on Saturday?

Either way, Rabbi Matondo is trying to lift his team-mate's spirits and the winger will be hoping to keep his starting place on the opposite flank although he will have to raise his performance level from Hibs.

A Col lot of pressure on Antonio's shoulders

Van Bronckhorst has put a lot of faith in Antonio Colak with his decisions to axe Morelos. The Croat netted four goals in as many games and that form was keeping the Colombian out of the side.

Morelos came on for the former PAOK Salonika man at Easter Road but lasted just 13 minutes before that red card. There was a bit of a debate over who would start in the Philips Stadium and whether Van Bronckhorst would unleash Morelos and challenge him to make amends for Hibs red card. But there is no decision to be made now - Colak is the man. Can he deliver?

Hands up if you think you can win

Connor Goldson came in for some criticism for appearing to duck out of the way of Josh Campbell's last-gasp equaliser for Hibs at the weekend but he's back down to business and looking focused on the trip to Holland.

The defender signed a contract extension at the end of last season which delighted the Ibrox legions but he's had a few sticky moments in the early part of the campaign.
