5 things to know about 49ers QB Brock Purdy when he played at Iowa State

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been one of the latest sensations in professional football.

After taking over as San Francisco’s starter well into the 2022 season, Purdy won plenty of games for the 49ers and now led the team to Super Bowl 58 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, it wasn’t long ago that Purdy was playing college football for the Iowa State Cyclones. He spent four years etching a legacy as one of the school’s best-ever quarterbacks.

Let’s look back on Purdy’s college days, which gave Iowa State one of the programs’ best runs in its history.

Purdy threw for 12,170 yards, 81 yards and 33 interceptions in 48 games over four seasons for Iowa State.

He also rushed for 1,177 yards and 19 touchdowns in that span.

Campbell has been with Iowa State as its head coach since 2016.

Purdy and Iowa State earned a major bowl win in January 2021 over Oregon in a 34-17 victory.

The Cyclones went 9-3 in the 2020 season, Purdy’s best while starting for Iowa State.

Per the San Francisco Chronicle, Purdy led Iowa State to the school’s first set of four-consecutive winning seasons since its 1923-27 run.

Purdy left after the 2021 season to enter the 2022 NFL Draft

After the 2021 season, Purdy entered the 2022 NFL Draft for a chance at a professional career.

After being selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the last pick in the seventh round of that draft (making him Mr. Irrelevant), he’s soared with the 49ers since taking over as the team’s starting quarterback 13 weeks into his rookie season.
