5 things spotted from Man Utd training as four stars return including Marcus Rashford

Manchester United face a testing trip to Spain on Thursday night as they aim to secure a place in the Europa League semi-finals.

The Red Devils travel to Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to take on the competition’s habitual winners Sevilla. The sides are level ahead of their second-leg clash with the previous match at Old Trafford ending level.

United had initially gone 2-0 ahead only for a late collapse to deprive them of victory. Erik ten Hag has been attempting to get his side prepared at Carrington.

Take a look at what we spotted on the training ground ahead of Thursday evening’s crunch clash:

Rashford back

One of the main headlines coming out of Man United will surely be the return of top scorer Marcus Rashford. The Red Devils’ academy graduate was in the midst of a sensational season with 27 goals to his name in all competitions.

He had also been pivotal to their current European campaign with six goals in eight Europa League appearances this season. Rashford has missed the last two matches with a thigh injury but he was pictured playing a full part in training ahead of the trip to Spain.

Whether he is fit enough to start or only for a place on the bench remains to be seen but his return will be a huge boost to the side regardless.

Sabitzer takes part

Another concern for Ten Hag coming into the game against Sevilla was the fitness of Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer. He had scored twice in the previous match against the Spanish side but was forced to withdraw from the starting line-up ahead of the game against Nottingham Forest.

Fortunately, he appears to have avoided a long-term issue as he too took part in the Red Devils’ latest session. Should he be included in the side, the on-loan Bayern man will no doubt be hoping to add to his two-goal haul against Sevilla.

Double defensive boost

Continuing the theme of injury boosts, the Red Devils’ defensive options now look far healthier with a couple of left-backs now back in contention. England international Luke Shaw has been on the sidelines since coming off in the first-half against Brentford.

Meanwhile, his fellow defender Tyrell Malacia missed the 2-0 win at the City Ground last time out with his own issue. That forced Diogo Dalot to deputise at left-back, in a role that he did very well in.

Ten Hag might be tempted to leave him there for the trip to Andalucia although it will be a positive to note that he does have a few more options to call upon ahead of what will be a hectic end to the campaign.

Iqbal eyes debut

Amid the Red Devils’ injury crisis over recent weeks, Zidane Iqbal has been constantly involved and that was no different on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old was fully involved in the latest session having been involved in a number of matchday squads under Ten Hag. He has not yet managed to make an appearance but will be hopeful of yet more involvement in Spain.

He appears highly likely to be included in the travelling squad after being a part of Ten Hag's selection for eight out of United's 11 Europa League games this term.

Weghorst determined

Man United’s January signing Wout Weghorst has not started a game for the Red Devils in any of the club’s last three outings - that coming after a run of 19 consecutive starts since arriving at Old Trafford. He looks determined to win his place back though.

He cut a determined figure during the Red Devils’ latest session and was at the forefront as Ten Hag got the squad to conduct a number of runs. Weghost has scored just two goals since joining the club from Burnley but will be aiming to get a chance to end his barren streak in Spain.
