5 Texans fantasy prospects to scout versus the Dolphins

QB C.J. Stroud

Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports
Stroud had an okay start in his first-ever NFL preseason game, going 2-4 for 13 yards and an interception. Many people on social media overreacted and started to write the young quarterback off — even though it was two series and DeMeco Ryans said that was the plan regardless. Regarding fantasy football, Stroud is still a top prospect in dynasty leagues and, in standard leagues, a solid addition if you wait for your quarterback. The No. 2 overall pick should have a better outing against the Dolphins.

WR Tank Dell

Dell was undoubtedly the star of the first preseason game with his five catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. Even in fantasy, folks are selling Dell high right now in dynasty leagues looking for future first-round picks or players such as New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara. Dell is a player that could develop as a No. 1 wideout in Houston — maybe even Tyreek Hill 2.0. Know you read it here first.

WR John Metchie

Metchie had 19 snaps last week, which resulted in a catch for five yards. The former Alabama wideout should get more snaps against Miami and have a chance to flash potential as a No. 2 option. In terms of fantasy, Metchie is a definite hold in dynasty on benches, and as for standard leagues, unless your bench is deep, he can be left off of most rosters.

WR Xavier Hutchinson

Hutchinson is a tall, athletic freak with much upside and potential. The sixth-rounder from Iowa State had 23 snaps and caught a 20-yard pass among his two targets last week. If Hutchinson makes the roster, it’s going to be special teams as evidenced by his 11 snaps last week. Still, in terms of fantasy, Hutchinson is more appealing in a dynasty deep down on the bench or taxi squad, and preseason is his chance to showcase that potential.

TE Dalton Schultz

Schultz is going to have a monster year for the Texans, and that will translate over to fantasy football. Schultz is being drafted in mid to late rounds in fantasy, and that is a steal at his average draft position. Stroud is going to need a safety blanket until he gets his feet settled. Finishing in the top-5 fantasy tight ends this year is not as crazy as it sounds. Outside of Dell, there are not a lot of explosive playmakers, and Schultz could benefit from that.

Houston Texans looked good in Week 1 of the preseason against the New England Patriots. The biggest standout was wide receiver Tank Dell. The Texans’ expansive receiver room begs someone to stand out and take the number one role. Dell could be that guy on the field and especially in fantasy football. For Week 2, the Texans will face off against the Miami Dolphins, and there are five names worth scouting for fantasy football implications. Most of these names will be the wide receivers and a few names folks just really want to see play well for the Texans and for fantasy football reasons.
