5 QBs fantasy football managers can pick up after losing Trey Lance

All hope for your fantasy football season is not lost if you have Trey Lance on your squad and watched as he went down with what turned out to be a season-ending injury in Week 2.

In most cases, you probably drafted a backup QB or there are some decent options on the waiver wire, and that’s what we’re here to help you with — luckily, the quarterback position in fantasy football is pretty deep and there have been some surprises this season who you could stream until their hot streaks run out or against easier opponents.

Let’s dive into the options who might be available:

1
Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders

Did you think we’d be talking about this guy having 650 passing yards and seven touchdowns in two games?

WILD.

Thing is, he may end up being a viable fantasy starter. He’s got a great supporting cast of receivers and Washington might be playing catch-up a lot. The turnovers will be infuriating, but that’s more for the Commanders to worry about.

2
Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons

The passing yardage will be capped (or, y’know, he could throw the ball occasionally to Kyle Pitts!), but we’re here to talk about his rushing volume. And he’s on another team that will need to throw a lot.

3
Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers

We can’t forget the guy replacing Lance. The problem is that the Niners run a ton, so he’s not going to be a huge threat to post 300-plus yards a week.

But he does have Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and — when healthy — George Kittle. That’s worth something.

4
Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

May I remind you that he threw four touchdown passes last week? And that the Lions are better through the air this year? And their O-line is good?

5
Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers

Matt Pendleton-USA TODAY Sports

This is thinking ahead: Mitchell Trubisky stinks (what a surprise!) and it might be time for the rookie to step in. He’d be coming into an offense with plenty of receiving weapons, so he might blossom right away.

I’m assuming you have a viable starter already, and that Pickett would be a stash until he starts.
