With the growing legality and popularity of sports gambling, we are seeing more players violate the National Football League’s gambling policy. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, five players have been suspended for sports gambling. Three were banned indefinitely, which equates to at least a year. Four of the players suspended were members of the Detroit Lions.

Shortly after the announcement of the suspensions, the Lions released Quintez Cephus and CJ Moore. The rules concerning sports gambling are rather simple with the NFL:
- Betting on NFL games is prohibited.
- Betting on games at the team facility is prohibited. The team facility includes locker room, team hotel and team plane.
- Betting on non-NFL games is allowed outside of the team facility.
Coincidentally, the pick that the Minnesota Vikings traded out of in the first round of last year’s draft ended up being Williams.
