The Champions League draw took place for this season's competition in Istanbul on Thursday, with all four Premier League teams discovering who they will face.
Last campaign's runners-up Liverpool have been put in a group with Ajax, Napoli and Rangers - setting up their first ever competitive meeting with the Glasgow club. Meanwhile, Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea have all been placed in relatively comfortable groups, with the first round of matches set to take place during the week commencing September 5.
There are some tasty ties across most groups, however, with some players facing their former sides, including Erling Haaland up against Borussia Dortmund. So, with that in mind, Mirror Football has taken a look at five personal battles in the group stage.
Erling Haaland
Starting off with the Norwegian forward, Haaland made the £51m switch to Manchester City from Dortmund earlier in the summer and will face off against his former club this season. Pep Guardiola's side have been drawn against Sevilla, Dortmund and Copenhagen - a group they will fancy their chances of topping.
Haaland, who has scored three goals in his opening three Premier League matches for City, will be hoping to hit another dagger in the hearts of Dortmund when they meet. City chief executive Ferran Soriano believes that it will be a "special" occasion for Haaland and fellow City teammate Ilkay Gundogan, who is also a former Dortmund player.
Soriano said: "You can never be completely happy or unhappy with a draw. But we’ve got good teams to play. It will be good to go back to Sevilla - we were there in 2015 - then we were in Copenhagen in 2009. We’ve been in Dortmund recently and it will be a special game for Haaland and Ilkay Gundogan."
Ryan Kent
It is poised to be a special occasion for Ryan Kent when he returns to Anfield for the first time since leaving Liverpool for Rangers in 2019. The 25-year-old came through the ranks with the Reds but failed to make a league appearance before his switch across the border to Ibrox.
He has been a mainstay in the Rangers side since his move and helped them to their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years during the 2020/21 season. Ben Davies will also face up against his old club and Jurgen Klopp is excited to face up against the Glasgow outfit.
Klopp said: "Ryan Kent has had a great development since moving to Scotland and Ben Davies is just starting out on his journey with Rangers, so it will be good to come up against them. The only certainty right now is that all of the six games will be incredibly competitive and really intense."
Robert Lewandowski
In one of the transfer sagas of the summer, Lewandowski managed to get his move to Barcelona - and he probably didn't expect to be playing former club Bayern Munich already. Barca have been drawn against the German giants, Inter Milan and Victoria Plzen in what some have already dubbed the 'Group of Death'.
It means Lewandowski will be up against Bayern for the first time since leaving and there is no doubt he will be keen to find the back of the net - something he did so regularly in Bavaria. Lewandowski has already scored twice in two La Liga appearances for Barca after striking over 300 goals for Bayern in his eight-year spell.
Fikayo Tomori
Some Chelsea fans are still frustrated with the club's decision to sell Tomori to AC Milan, and they will now be able to see how good the England international has become when they face the Italian side in the Champions League group stage. The Blues are also in a group with Red Bull Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.
Tomori will want to show Chelsea it was a mistake to sell him a year ago, with Thomas Tuchel now desperate for a centre-back to come through the door. Olivier Giroud will also face his former club after also leaving Chelsea last summer.
Renato Sanches
The former Swansea City man has revived his career in France after struggling at Bayern Munich. He recently left Lille to join Paris Saint-Germain an has played in their first two league matches. Sanches joined Lille in 2020 and went on to become one of their most important players as they lifted the Ligue 1 title in 2021.
Sanches will now face his former side Benfica in the Champions League. It was the club that Sanches started his career at, as he impressed for Portugal as a 19-year-old at Euro 2016. Sanches made just 35 appearances for Benfica before his €35million (£30m) switch to Bayern.
