Sergio Garcia saw an unreal streak end this week.
The LIV golfer had played in 24 straight Open Championships. But he came up short to qualify for the upcoming 2023 British Open at Royal Liverpool and won’t play.
That said, there are some notable names who DID qualify, including some PGA Tour vets and one sibling of a major winner. Similar to U.S. Open qualifying, there are events that if you play and finish among the leaders, you can participate in the British major along with the automatic qualifiers (hence why it’s called an “open.” Got it?).
So let’s run through some of the notable names:
1
Alex Fitzpatrick
Alex will get to play in the same tournament as his big brother, Matthew. Very cool.
10 years ago yesterday I qualified for The Open for the first time. Today my brother does the same exact thing!! Couldn’t be prouder and can’t wait to play a major championship with him! pic.twitter.com/eKLEt0Elzq

2
Matt Wallace
The British golfer is in!
3
Matthew Jordan
A notable name because … he’s a member at Royal Liverpool!
4
Charl Schwartzel
The 2011 Masters champ is in.
5
Branden Grace
He finished T6 in the 2017 British Open, for what it’s worth.
