The Chargers and Jets will face off on Monday night, a game crucial to Los Angeles as they look to get back into the thick of the playoff race in the AFC.
They meet a New York team that has some players that could pose a challenge for the Bolts.
RB Breece Hall
The Chargers have been solid at defending the run this season. But Hall is one of the top dual-threat backs who might be more effective as a pass catcher. Just last weekend, Hall totaled 93 yards in the Jets’ win over the Giants, 86 of which came through the air. He had a 50-yard catch-and-run touchdown. Los Angeles has been susceptible to yards after the catch, where Hall could present a challenge.
WR Garrett Wilson
The Jets don’t have a prolific passing offense with Zach Wilson under center. But despite the inconsistencies, Wilson has still been productive. He is removed from a seven-catch and 100-yard performance. Wilson hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 2, but he has 190 receiving yards in his last two games. Facing a vulnerable Chargers secondary, Wilson could be in for a big game if he isn’t correctly game-planned for.
DT Quinnen Williams
Ever since the loss of Corey Linsley, the interior part of the Chargers offensive line has had some issues. It won’t be any easier facing one of the best defensive tackles in the league. Williams has yet to record a single sack, but he is still making an impact on nearly every play. He has 25 quarterback pressures, 20 hurries and five QB hits, which ranks near the top at his position.
EDGE Bryce Huff
It’s not just the interior offensive linemen that will have to be on their A-game, the tackles will, too. Off the edge for the Jets, they are led by Huff, who is pressuring quarterbacks at a high rate with 38 and four sacks. His fellow teammates at the position, John Franklin-Myers and Jermaine Johnson, have 29 and 19 pressures, respectively.
CB Sauce Gardner
The Jets have one of the best pass defenses in the NFL. Their pass rush plays a big part in that, but it helps to have a lock-down cornerback, too. Since his rookie season, Gardner has continued to play at a high level. On 25 targets, Gardner has allowed 19 receptions for just 155 yards (8.2 yards per catch). He has the fourth-best Pro Football Focus coverage grade (82.5).
