5-day musical series from today to mark Annamayya vardhanti

The 519 th death anniversary (vardhanti) of saint poet Tallapaka Annamacharya will be observed in the form of a five-day musical series starting March 28 (Monday). The TTD has lined up several events at Tirumala, Tirupati and his birthplace Tallapaka near Rajampet.

Born in the year 1408, he had penned 32,000 compositions in praise of Lord Venkateswara till he passed away in 1503. Ahobila Mutt’s pontiff Srivan Satagopa Sri Ranganatha Yathindra Mahadesikan will participate as TTD’s guest at ‘Sapthagiri Sankeertana Yagnam’ at Narayanagiri gardens, Tirumala on Tuesday. This honour is conferred every year as Annamayya was initiated into Sri Vaishnavism by the mutt’s first pontiff Adivan Satagopa.

According to Annamacharya Project Director A. Vibhishana Sarma, ‘Metlotsavam’ will be conducted during the fest when musicians trek up the steps to Tirumala by singing his compositions. Music concerts, spiritual discourses and literary meets will be held daily at Annamacharya Kalamandiram and Mahati auditorium in Tirupati and at the 108-foot Annamayya statue in Tallapaka.
